Coarse Fishing in Ireland

Ireland West stretches from the Atlantic Ocean inland as far as the mighty River Shannon, the longest river in Britain or Ireland. Much of the region is part of the central plain of Ireland, a huge expanse of low-lying, slow-flowing rivers and lakes, which literally teem with huge stocks of coarse fish, including roach, bream, rudd, tench, pike, perch and hybrids.

Pike fishing in particular can be spectacular in the region, with fish to 30lbs-plus caught every year, and always the chance of a monster over 40lbs. The rich limestone waters provide excellent feeding and coarse fish stocks grow rapidly, providing great angling as well as lots of pike food!

Síníonn Iarthair Eireann ó an tAigéan Atlantach isteach chomh fada le abhainn na Sionna, an abhainn is faide í mBreatain agus Eireann. Is ansin í láthair na tíre atá fail ar neart iasc garbh, ina measc róiste, bréan, ruán, cúramán, gailliasc agus péirse.
Tá an iascaireacht ar an gailliasc thar cionn, le iasc os cionn 30lbs dhá fháil gach bliain. Tá an t-uisce anseo an-feiliúnach don iasc garbh.
